At the beginning I was on the skeptic side, I was actually deeply triggered by the people that started to talk about it, I saw it as a way to spread the belief of the pandemic. I didn’t see it that way because I didn’t want to be that way. A few days ago, I was really pissed off about the people getting crazy at the supermarkets, the long wait lines, all the frozen food is gone, all the cans are gone, and every email I got it was about it. In my belief system if we put attention on something that grows bigger and becomes a reality, and I was really afraid that that was happening.
And now the virus has become that, a world thread. For many days now, I have been feeling the fear in the air, so I have been meditating and doing my best at staying centered, which can be hard if you try to keep your life as regular as it used to be. Many events, gatherings, and practices have been canceled or postponed or switched to be virtual.
All the events above had taken me to a few thoughts so far:
-We are being invited to slow down. That is so clear now, but there is a huge fear that slowing down will impact our economic aspects and many people are trying to figure things out. So an economy that can’t sustain while slowing down is not a sustainable economy. And it is a huge reflection of how we have been living in the last decades. This is the beginning of a new order of things if we want it to be.
-It is time for the opportunity. When we are forced into the realization that things need to change, it is a great moment to take different actions, and that is where the opportunity lies because if we just keep doing the same over and over nothing will change. And we are usually afraid or resistant to change. When the circumstances force us to change, allowing the new actions to come from responsibility, heart and thoughtfulness will help us ease the change.
-We are all in this together. Regarding this, I’m very happy. I have seen first hand how challenging moments bring solidarity and openness to connect in deeper ways than we usually allow to. And this tiny virus is bringing the awareness that we are all connected and we are all in this together.
On the practical side:
-Use tools that help you stay centered. I mean dance, sing, meditate, draw, write - connect with your inner self and listen to it.
-I have been hearing the suggestion of social distance, take it just as physical, but we are connected in many ways, use the phone to call someone and tell them how you feel. Text some other to let them know how much you love them. Write a love letter to yourself.
-Play at home, set a virtual game with your friends, use the time wisely. Play and laugh are potent immune defense boosters.
-Eat real food. Cook with love, it is a key ingredient that will make every dish delicious. Don’t overeat. Pay attention to your craving and dig where they are coming from. Then when you are in front of your emotions go back to number one: write, dance, sing, cry, laugh.
-Detox from the news, yes, stay informed, but be mindful about how you are consuming information.
-Be grateful for what you do have in this right moment.
I'm grateful for my health, for my strong body, the health of the ones I love.
I'm grateful for the delicious food I have.
I'm grateful for the house that holds space for me.
I'm grateful for the fresh and delicious water I have.
I'm grateful for the air that I breath that keep me alive.
I'm grateful for all the love around me.
I'm grateful for family and friends that keep calling to see how we are.
I'm grateful for the sun that caress my face so gently...
And I can go on and on, so much to be grateful for. I choose to focus on that while being aware of all that is going on.
In general, take what resonates with you, and leave the rest aside.
Much love and health for all! May we all find inner peace and reflect it in our world.
